What is the Community Cat Program?

Our Community Cat Program helps stabilize colony populations through TNVR and ongoing care. Certified caretakers play a key role by feeding, monitoring, and supporting cats who have already been trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and safely returned to their outdoor homes.

TNVR First

All cats in our colonies are trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and returned before being assigned to a caretaker.

Colony Management

Caretakers help maintain safe, clean, and stable colony sites through responsible feeding and monitoring.

Health & Safety Monitoring

Caretakers report injuries, new arrivals, or changes in cat behavior so our team can respond quickly.

Community Partnerships

We work alongside residents, local businesses, and vets to protect community cats and reduce overpopulation.

Caretaker Certification Program

Our training program makes sure volunteers feel confident caring for their assigned colony and supporting our TNVR efforts.

Feeding & Water

Certified caretakers are trained to provide consistent, responsible feeding and hydration for their assigned colony. You’ll learn how to maintain stable routines that keep cats healthy while preventing nuisance concerns.

Monitoring

You’ll be certified to identify new cats, recognize illness or injury, and notice changes in colony behavior. This training ensures every cat gets timely attention when something shifts.

Record Keeping

You’ll learn how to document each visit with simple, effective notes that track which cats are present and anything that has changed. These records guide our TNVR decisions and help maintain colony stability.

Community Relations

Caretakers are trained to maintain a clean, positive presence at the colony site and to navigate basic interactions with nearby residents. This builds trust and long-term support for the cats who live there.

Training

Attend a brief orientation that covers TNVR basics, safe feeding practices, colony behavior, and the core responsibilities of a certified caretaker. This session prepares you for your first on-site visit.

Shadow

Visit one of our colonies alongside an experienced caretaker to see the routine in action. You’ll learn feeding setup, monitoring, and record keeping in real time.

Get Certified

After training and shadowing, you’ll be officially certified and assigned to a colony that matches your availability. Certification means you’re trusted to care for your colony independently with ongoing support from our team.
